Ian Williams, Head of Market Data Platforms, Deutsche Bank
Ian Williams is the Head of Market Data Platforms at Deutsche Bank in London, responsible for engineering the bank’s on-demand, intraday and historical market data platforms. He leads a global engineering organisation spanning multiple locations and drives bank-wide solutions with a focus on platform simplification, stability, cost savings and usage transparency.
Over more than a decade at Deutsche Bank, Ian has built and scaled the firm’s market data infrastructure, including leading its historical market data platforms — large-scale kdb+ tick-capture and analytics systems that serve trading, strats, quants and operations teams across most divisions of the bank. He has established deep partnerships with front-office business and technology stakeholders and has initiated the development of numerous new services within the historical market data domain.
Ian began his career as a kdb developer at Merrill Lynch, working in the tick data and statistics space alongside execution desk business sponsors and quants. He went on to hold a series of development and leadership roles within Electronic Trading Technology and Electronic Trading Data at Bank of America Merrill Lynch, where he led regional application development and high-profile platform migrations.
A committed advocate for engineering talent, Ian is heavily involved in Deutsche Bank’s graduate programme, mentoring and placing graduate engineers within his team. He holds a Masters in Computer Science from the University of Warwick.
